have you had your thyroid and parathyroid glands checked out? you need to get blood tests for TSH, T3 and T4 both free and total, as well as a Reverse T3, which shows how much T3 your body can USE, as opposed to what is floating around in the blood FOR use--sometimes there is a vast difference between reverse and free T3. many doctors, including endocrinologists, do not even know what a Reverse T3 is, or do not understand its importance. some even insist all they need to do is a TSH test which is nonsense. you also need calcium levels, potassium, a full mineral panel, and general blood levels done. IF you are hypothyroid [low function] all of your symptoms would make sense, including the weight gain. i have been struggling to live without a thyroid for 13 years, and have experienced some really ignorant and pompous ''specialists''. so good luck and demand a reverse T3.

It's absolutely vital that you lose weight. Try eating low-glycemic mediterranean diet.
Also supplementation is a must and the dosages should be optimum not the minimum
RDA levels that don't help much at all.
You should go to a good doctor, have a comprehensive blood test. Also have your hormones checked.
Good luck and I hope you will manage to feel better.
All the best
Barbara

People think they crave salt, but it is the oil needed for the brain,, that we look for... it really helps, and if you crave the chips etc, take another pill.
there is a drug called atenolol which causes ankle swelling.. Others may as well. and could cause kidney damage.. We need a list of drugs which cause weight gain in different ways, to be sure of what is happening.. I would like to hear a bit more about you.. Bless you, and hope it helps. mary
Permalink Reply by mary dicerni on June 4, 2011 at 4:11am Hello again, Violet, I just thought of something, and feel it might help. Women get diastasis recti, which is a split apart abdominal muscle group. There are really 8 and not a six pack. this would make it feel like you have a large belly, when in fact it is separated muscles. like a rupture, and it may gather more weight there because you cannot work the muscles. Have the doc check how wide the separation is, and it my even be real bad, if you had a large baby at one time.. and have carried heavy objects.. when moving a household, especially.. It seems to be very common, and the doctors often just say it is normal, and make you believe it is all fat. It is so difficult to get a proper opinion any more.. We need to be more vigilant about drugs and opinions.. Good luck, we are on your side, mary

Permalink Reply by mary dicerni on June 4, 2011 at 4:24am Hi Violet, I am a pain now, but again, I thought of something.. If you cannot get exercise, try each day to do a bit of jumping on the spot, like you are doing the LEFT.. RIGHT, LEFT RIGHT, and keep it up for ten times or only five to begin with, and do it before you eat. It is like running, but no need for extra strength. and it may give you more energy.
The movement of the calf muscles make the circulation active, bringing the blood flow back up to the heart. The problem often, is that the blood can go down, but cannot get back up as well, and the feet and ankles may swell. The water movement may behave in the same manner, so try it and see if it feels a bit better each day. It can also improve the breathing, but not after a meal.. take it slow and easy to begin the exercise "run in place". You may want to hold on to the back of a chair for comfort. If your back is sore when you do it, it may be the abdominals not working to support the back.. There are so many things that may cause it, but the abdominals are critical.. Please have them checked. Mary

Permalink Reply by mary dicerni on June 4, 2011 at 4:40am Hi Violet, I agree with the low oxygen as well. If the lungs are not able to expand enough, you will be low on air, and need to try deep breathing, which may not be possible if there is a problem in abdominal wall, such as ruptures, which press on areas that move with the diaphragm. It also reduces quality of sleep, so you are not being regenerated nightly. You may need a herb like Valerian, or a tranquilizer which is not great for your memory quality.. Omegas do help , but sleep is essential, with body being able to repair cells, and regenerate energies. It can only do these repairs when in REM sleep, which is a deeper sleep..If you wake up tired this is the reason. MANY ways to be tired, and we must cover them all. When you do a bit of exercise before the meal, you raise the metabolic rate, which is similar to the thyroid activity, and the meal is digested better. Going for a walk after meals is not as effective, as before the meal.. You may not even be able to walk well after eating, if there is any rupture in the abdomen. It all goes together somehow, and each symptom helps guide us. Let's get it together, with help from each other.. mary

I have always been tired. The ankle problem is relatively recent. I think it is all cconnected to thyroid, but no one seems to acknowledge this because it hits middle when I take a test 5/10.
I have to say I have no respect for RDA amounts of vits.....if I didn't take mega strengths of vitamins I would not have got to where I am....I was always being ill. I have been to the docctors once in 9 years! I have tried herbal supplements and lymph massage to relieve the toxons, but nothing changes. Oh for the day when something does!!!
Thanks for the feedback.....much appreciated!
