Hi I am a nephrologist that has recently started blogging on kidney disease for my patients. My idea is really simple review the articles published daily in journals daily and try and translate it into easily understood language and add some of my personal opinions on the matter.

Education and empowerment is the aim.

What I would like from is this..Are there any burning issues that you would like to know about when it comes to kidney disease?

I want to tailor my posts to what the general population actually wants.

Yes, I heard that adding bicarbonate of soda capsules to a daily regime would slow down acute kidney disease. Is that true.? If so, how many capsules would be advisable for a 270lb. male?
What i would do is take the bicarbonate only if my serum bicarbonate level was between 16 to 20 meq/l

then start at 600 mg of bicarbonate so you need to know what formulation you are using. Increasing the dose until bicarbonate in the serum reaches about 20 meq/l or there abouts. The key is not to overdo it and become alkalotic because there are health risks with that.

As with most things its best if its prescribed by a doctor and monitored by a doctor.

Excuse me, I have a question. It's said that too much salt can cause kidney problems. Is that true?

Hello Doctor, I have a kidney stone, and dont know what type of stone it is, however its been with me for too long. The first time I knew I have it was like 9 years ago, and just until last year I had a very excruciating pain on my flank area, and I was hospitalized for 3days due to the pain which I can't bear. The only thing that stopped the pain is when I drank a supplement from USANA's Proflavanol, it has blueberry extract. Until now, I'm not feeling any pain, however when i eat foods rich in uric acid it starts to feel tolerable pain. anyhow do you have any advice if I should have this remove or stick to a strict low salt, no uric acid diet, loads of water? thanks doc.
